Do you remember buying your first gun?
Let’s pretend for a minute that you’ve just turned 18 and you want to purchase your very first firearm. You’ve done some research online and have decided which gun you want to get. So, what’s your next step? Buy one? Hold on there for a second! There are a few things that you have to do first. You need to get a firearm licence. You need to choose your method of purchase (gun store, online, GTA Guns auction). And you need to be sure that a firearm is really right for you.
Getting a Firearm Licence in Canada
In Canada, you need a firearm Possession and Acquisition Licence before you can legally purchase a gun. This requires you to take a course and then apply for your licence (there are additional steps if you live in Quebec). The course is called the Canadian Firearms Safety Course, but don’t worry, it isn’t too tough!
The CFSC is a one-day course offered in every province in Canada. Although it usually costs about $125, this can vary from province to province. In the course, you will be given a gun safety book and be taught the ins and outs of gun ownership. In the end, you will be given a test based on the material that was taught that day. If you pass, you will be eligible to apply for your gun licence.
You can download the application form on the RCMP CFP website (Form: RCMP 5592/CAFC 921E). Fill it out, pay the fee, mail it in, and you will be sent your firearm licence just a few weeks later. Now, you are legally able to purchase and own firearms in Canada!
Where to Buy?
Now comes the hard part, actually buying your first gun.
There are a number of factors you may want to consider when purchasing your first firearm. First, how much are you willing to spend? Guns can get incredibly expensive, so you might want to limit your budget so you don’t break the bank your first time out. Next, where are you going to buy it? There are gun retailers throughout Canada and they usually have helpful employees who will walk you through getting a gun. That said, they may point you towards the most expensive gun and accessories in the store, as that is how they make their money. You could try to buy your gun through online retailers, but you may want to actually hold and see the firearm before purchase. Some people buy guns across firearm forums, but this can be very dangerous as there is a huge potential to be scammed. The safest, easiest, and often the cheapest way to buy a gun in Canada is to use a gun auction. Specifically, a gun auction held by GTA Guns!

Second, you never want to overpay for a gun. Heck, you never want to overpay for anything! The neat thing about auctions is that, occasionally, you can get an item for less than its retail price. It all depends on the number of people who are bidding on it. Of course, it can go the other way as well and become much more expensive if the gun is in high demand.
Finally, you want to be sure that all of the paperwork has been filled out and that the sale of your new firearm is 100% legal.
